Hypnosis as an Acne Cure

You might be able to prevent or cure your acne with hypnosis.

According to such a reliable source as Philip D. Shenefelt, M.D., M.S., Associate Professor, Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida, hypnosis has proven to be an effective means of treating pain related to dermatologic or cosmetic procedures. This would include dermbrasion and other procedures often performed as an acne cure.

Even better, in some patients, hypnosis has shown to be effective at preventing and even curing acne outbreaks.

Hypnosis is certainly a natural acne cure, and one that I am excited to hear about.    It's a natural, safe approach to pain management and stress reduction. Anything that reduces stress is likely to reduce the occurrences of acne , particularly in adults.  Hypnosis and other related approaches to altered consciousness can be learned and practiced     by the individual, giving it great potential as a self help procedure as well as a clinical procedure.  And, once learned, you can practice self hypnosis on any pain, stress or other condition that may occur.

The "down side" to hypnosis that it is only helpful to patients deemed "hypnotizable."  The article is published online in Modern Medicine.

Here is a video demonstrating a group of people using hypnosis to create an "anaesthetized" arm.  Warning:  if you're a little squeamish, give this one a miss. It shows people getting pins inserted in their arms.

Hypnosis is well worth a try if you suffer from acne or other skin conditions. There are plenty of skilled and trained hypnotists around, not to mention the many self help DVDs, books and videos that help you learn self hypnosis.

Should you Try Acne Homeopathic Remedies?

Are you reluctant to try acne homeopathic remedies because you have heard it said that homeopathy is a scam and a hoax?

It is true that homeopathy has not yet been scientifically proven. Most studies conducted thus far suggest that the cures affected by homeopathy are attributable to the placebo effect.

Homeopathic practitioners themselves say they do not understand precisely how homeopathy works.  However, research in the fields of quantum physics and molecular biology are beginning to shed light on the mind-body connection, which is the vehicle behind most approaches to wholistic medicine.

So given the above information, should you try treating your acne with homeopathic remedies?

In my view, why not?  At this point, western medicine does not have a permanent cure for acne. Your dermatologist will prescribe a number of over-the-counter or prescription medicines that may or may not work and which are not inexpensive. If they do work, they are likely to be temporary. They are likely to cause side effects. And, in worse case situations, the only solution may be surgical intervention, such as dermabrasion or laser treatments.

How consider homeopathy. The remedy may or may not work. It is likely to have a similar financial cost to the medications and procedures used by western medicine. Side effects are unlikely. And, if the remedy works, the treatment is more likely to be permanent, given that wholistic medicine treats the cause, rather than the symptom.

When you look at is that way -- acne homiopathic remedies suddenly start to make as much sense as the traditional treatment approach, don't they?

Scoffers will be quick to tell you that homeopathy cures are simply a placebo effect.  In other words, the healing occurs simply because you believe it will and you expect it to.  And what would the problem be with that?  I fail to see the drawback. LOL

Here's a short video of a young woman explaining acne homeopathic remedies

Acne homeopathic remedies are controversial.  There are those who swear by this approach to ridding the face or body or undesirable pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and pustules that comprise the skin condition known as acne.

Others scoff and say that homeopathy is a scam and a hoax and is nothing more than the placebo effect.

What to believe?

Let's start by thinking about homeopathy and what it is. Homeopathy is an alternative,.wholistic approach to healing the body's various systems. Like all wholistic healing methods, it regards disease or "unwellness" as an indication that something is amiss in one or more of the body's symptoms.

This differs from western medicine in that western medicine is more likey to treat the symptom.  Therefore, in the case of acne, western medicine is likely to treat with salves, ointments, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics if there is infection. In severe cases, surgical procedures such as laser treatments may be used.

Wholistic medicine would view the acne symptoms as an indication that something is amiss in the body symptoms and would use treatments designed to correct the systemic imbalance.

Homeopathic medicine, as mentioned earlier, is a branch of wholistic medicine.  Homeopathic practitioners use tablets or other substances that are ingested by the individual. These tablets contain extremely diluted substances that they say activates the body's natural healing abilities.  Homeopathy works on the principle that "like cures like".  Homeopathic practitioners liken this substance to a vaccine that introduces a tiny amount of bacteria in the body, which in turn protect us against similar bacteria attempting to invade the body.

Why homeopathy works, if it does, has not been scientifically proven. However, recent developments in quantum physics are beginning to shed light on the issue.

This brings us back to the question: should you use acne homeopathic remedies to cure your acne?

My thoughts are why not?  You have nothing to lose except the cash you pay for the remedies.  You could easily spend more on over the counter pharmaceuticals that may or may not work, may have side effects and are likely to be a temporary cure.

If acne homeopathic remedies work, then the cure is apt to be long lasting or permanent, given that they have addressed the root of the problem rather than the symptoms.

And if the cure is a placebo effect, as some suggest, does it really matter?  The goal here is to clear your face of acne spots and if its a placebo effect that does this, so what?  Either way, you end up getting what you want. A clear face with no acne pimples.

Acne: Could Bugs in your Gut be the Cause?

I have just read an interesting article by Mark Hyman, MD.  His message should be of considerable interest to anyone looking for natural acne cures.  Hyman says that bugs (referring to toxin producing bacteria, parasites or even worms) in the gut may be the root cause of acne, as well as a lot of other conditions and health problems.

Hyman says that this can be true even if you have had no symptoms of digestive problems. His message is that  the body's systems -- which includes the digestive system -- can cause problems in apparently unrelated areas of the body.

As Hyman says, modern medicine tends to treat symptoms.  In acne, pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, pustules and even cysts are the symptoms. A typical medical approach works by applying ointments or salves to the affected area, or by taking antibiotics if infection is present.  This may indeed eliminate the symptoms -- usually temporarily and sometimes with side effects.

On the other hand, wholistic practitioners treat the body as a whole.  They look at any symptom as a sign that something is amiss in one or more of the body's systems. Therefore, rather than treat the pimples of acne, they would look at treating the body as a whole.

Hyman recommends five steps to take to create and maintain a healthy gut. These steps will work to eliminate the undesirable bugs living in the gut while encouraging the desirable health-promoting bacteria to flourish.  Some of his recommendations are also covered at this post: Natural Acne Cures: Look to Diet and Exercise.

Acne Comes in Three Varieties

Anyone researching natural acne cures needs to understand one important factor:  Acne comes in three general varieties and the best remedy will depend upon which type of acne you are trying to treat.

I have used the term "general varieties somewhat inaccurately. Actually, medical professionals identify quite a number of different types of acne, many of which are quite rare. However, they tend to divide the other, non-rare types into three categories discussed below, which range from mild to serious.

Also, please note that acne is not the same as eczema or rosacea. Rosacea is sometimes called "acne rosacea" and it does indeed tend to resemble acne in many cases. However, it is a different condition entirely with a different set of causes.

Comedonal acne is the mildest form of acne. It is considered a non-inflammatory acne. It consists of blackheads or
"comodomes".   Commercial products used to treat comedonal acne usually contains salicylic acid, a beta hydroxy acid.  Products containing salicylic acid are likely to cause dry skin and other types of skin irritations.  Products containing Retinoids may be used instead.

Acne vulgaris is the second variety of acne. It is a more severe form than comedonal and consists of a combination of blackheads, whiteheads, red bumps and pimples containing pus.  Approximately 90% of acne sufferers have this type of acne.  Depending on the number of spots and the degree of inflammation, acne vulgaris can range from milk to severe.

Acne vulgaris is usually treated with benzyl peroxide,  retinoids, anti inflammatory medications, hormonal treatments and antibiotics.  Various medical procedures may be used as well, including Dermabrasion and phototherapy (light).

Cystic acne is the third type and the more serious.  Symptoms include comedones, pauples pustules and cysts.  Cystic acne is particularly painful, due to the inflammation and infection. If untreated, permanent scarring can result.  It affects deeper skin tissue than do the other forms of acne.  Treatment may include any of the methods described above. Laser treatments may be used to remove the scarring.

Before attempting any of the commercial treatments. many individuals look for natural acne cures, including acne herbs, vitamins for acne and acne homeopathic remedies.

Under Development: Electronic Acne Patch

Oplon-Pure Science Ltd., a company based in Israel, is currently performing clinical trials to study the effectiveness of an electronic acne patch.

When applied to the affected skin, the patch releases a small electrical current that kills bacterial associated with the skin condition known as acne vulgaris.

Preliminary studies look promising. Apparently the acne spots improve immensely after three days of use.

The current acne research project uses two groups of acne sufferers. One group is given the patch and the second group receive a placebo patch.

At this point, we don't know whether the patch will show better results than the placebo or where there will be side effects.  We also don't know at this point whether or not the acne is likely to return. It seems to me that it will -- given that the bacterial will most certainly still be present.

In the meantime, why not try some natural acne cures?

Cautions about Using Acne Herbs

Anyone researching natural acne cures will soon discover that acne herbs can be useful for ridding the skin of the unpleasant condition known as acne.  A quick Internet search turns up tons of web sites advocating the use of various herbs.  Undoubtedly many of these sites provide accurate information.  Also, undoubtedly, some provide inaccurate or downright dangerous information.

The thing to remember is that herbs may contain ingredients that affect the body's functioning. The fact that they grow in nature does not mean they are necessarily safe. Or, they may be safe if taken in certain quantifies, or if used in a certain way -- but dangerous in other situations.

Anyone deciding to try acne herbs is strongly advised to do so under the care of a professional herablist or medical practitioner The correct herb and the correct dosage for you will depend upon your individual, unique condition.  And also remember that herbs, like pharmaceutical medications, can have side effects and can interact with any other medication or herb that you may be taking. A professional will monitor this.

The following are examples of acne herbs that you may  be advised to use:

Burdock:  Burdock is a common weed that has long been used as a natural remedy for acne and skin conditions.  The root and leaves are used in an array of teas, tinctures and supplements.  Using burdock under the guidance of a herbalist is a good idea. Experts have not fully researched this plant's toxic properties, nor do they fully understand the healing properties. Burdock should not be taken by women who are pregnant or nursing. It can cause complications to the pregnancy..Diabetics may want to avoid burdock as well. In some studies, burdock has improved diabetic conditions, but in other studies, has worsened it.  Also, be aware that when ingested, burdock is known to stimulate the appetite This is useful if you want to gain weight; it is a consideration of a different matter if you want to reduce your weight.

Red Clover:  In addition to allegedly bringing you luck, prosperity health and protection, red clover can help rid you or acne and other skin conditions. It can be taken internally or externally as a salve or ointment.  As with burdock, I advocate using it under the care of a herbalist.

Be aware that isolated red clover isoflavone products are much different than the herb as a whole. Isoflavone is a type of plant estrogen. Children, pregnant women, breast feeding women and women with a history of breast cancer should not use this herb.  People who are taking hormones (which includes the birth control pill) should not use red clover isoflavones.

These are but two of the many acne herbs that can be tried.

Is Acne Linked to Suicidal Thinking?

Once again, I have to emphasize the importance of trying natural acne cures before turning to pharmaceutical remedies.

Why?

Because now, according to a study in Norway, youth with acne, especially bad or severe acne, are more likely to have suicidal thoughts than youth with clear skin.  One in five teenagers is likely to develop acne pimples serious enough to be labelled as severe.

This makes sense, so far. We understand that adolescents are at a developmental phase in which fitting in with peers and looking good are critical to the self esteem.  Severe acne damages self esteem, no question about it.

However, here's there things get tricky. The researchers don't know whether this suicidal thinking occurs because the youths have acne and feel bad about themselves, or if the suicidal thinking is a side effect of the acne medications they were using.

Common acne medications such as Accutane and Claravis contain an ingredient known as Isotretinoin.  Isotretinoin has been linked to depression, suicidal thinking and suicide.

However, the researchers thought the depression was more likely to be related to the acne than to the drug. However, they could not rule out the drug as being the cause.

No question about it, acne is an emotional devastating condition for some teens.  It seems to me that trying natural acne cures (such as vitamins for acne)  along with counseling or peer support is a better approach than turning to medications that just may make the depression worse.

Factors that Trigger Acne in Women

Since we know that hormones are related to outbreaks of acne, it comes as no surprise that women are particularly prone to this skin condition.

Womenshealth.gov reports that various hormone related factors can wreak havoc with women's skin.  They include hormonal changes related to menstruation, pregnancy and going off the birth control pill.

The governmental organization also reports that certain medication, makeup and applying pressure to the skin can contribute to acne.

Elsewhere, I read that hormonal birth control in any form (pill, patch or ring) can contribute to an array of effects, including a reduction of acne.  This happens because hormonal birth control contains estrogen. Ingesting it in any form results in a rise of estrogen in the body, as well as a rise in the ratio of estrogen to testosterone.  Taking hormonal birth control can result in other desirable effects -- including a lusher growth of hair.

However, hormonal birth control has side effects as well.  Researching and pursuing natural acne cures would be a preferable first step before deciding to go this route.

Seaweed a Boon to Acne Sufferers

There appears to be an array of press releases and blog posts recently, touting the effectiveness of seaweed as a natural acne cure.  Given the high numbers of youths and adults who suffer from this embarrassing and annoying skin condition, it is no wonder that so much effort is being put into finding natural, effective remedies that do not product undesirable side effects.

I have found one article in which the director of a company that markets a seaweed based product describes it as a miracle drug.  My sense is that this label may be optimistic, but time will tell.

Jean-Yves Moigne, the director of Cosmetics and Natural products for Alque et Mer, says his company's products are expected to appear on shelves by  mid to late 2011. The product is patented in Japan, Europe and the United States.

Along a similar lines, an Italian researcher, Professor Enzo Berardesca, a director at the Instituto Dermatolgico San Gallicano, Italy, conducted studies on an extract derived from brown seaweed. The researchers found that the extract did not appear to have any side effects.

We will have to wait and see whether this extract proves effective as claimed. In the meantime, some experts say that including seaweed in one's daily nutrition would be even more effective. Seaweed is known to be rich in natural trace elements and contains many minerals and vitamins for acne.. Dried seaweed can be purchased at many health food stores or online.

New Anti Acne Product Derived from Ayurvedic Herb

According to a recent press release, pharmaceutical company Unigen Inc has created a new product purporting to inhibit the occurrence of acne breakouts and acne scars. The product, known as Bakutrol, is derived from Psolarea corylifolia (often known as babchi). which is one of the acne herbs often used in ayurveda medicine. Babchi seeds have many uses, including as natural remedies for leprosy, internal ulcers, skin conditions and fevers.  The active component in the seeds is an essential oil.

Ayurveda, viewed as an alternative medicine in the west, is a major health system that originated in India and is widely practiced in Asian countries.  A wholistic approach, it incorporates the body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda is likely to treat through special diets, herbs and minerals.

Unigen Inc. reports that their new anti-acne drug is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring.  They point out that current commercial products to treat acne often cause side effects including scarring, skin drying and skin irritation.  The company says that clinical studies showed that their product was effective in reducing acne problems without these unwanted side effects.   It can be formulated with other acne treating substances such as salicylic acid, or added to various cosmetic products.

A patent is pending.

While it is always a good thing to have choices, especially choices that work without side effects, it would also be possible to utilize natural acne cures or consult a practitioner of ayurveda medicine for help with troublesome acne problems.

Neem Leaves Effective for Treating Acne

Anyone interested in natural acne cures might to well to investigate the use of neem leaves.

Until this morning, I had never heard of neem leaves.  However, a little research turned up some compelling evidence to suggest their effectiveness as a skin treatment.

According to Wikipedia, the neem tree is native to India, where it has long played a role in health promotion.  It is also native to other tropical countries in Asia.

Wikipedia says:

"In India, the tree is variously known as "Sacred Tree," "Heal All," "Nature's Drugstore," "Village Pharmacy" and "Panacea for all diseases." Products made from neem tree have been used in India for over two millennia for their medicinal properties: Neem products have been observed to be anthelmintic, antifungal, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antiviral, contraceptive and sedative.  It is considered a major component in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine and is particularly prescribed for skin disease.
All parts of the tree are said to have medicinal properties (seeds, leaves, flowers and bark) and are used for preparing many different medical preparations.
Neem oil is used for preparing cosmetics (soap, shampoo, balms and creams, for example Margo soap), and is useful for skin care such as acne treatment, and keeping skin elasticity. Neem oil has been found to be an effective mosquito repellent."
To use neem leaves as a natural acne remedy, you have several options to try:

  • If you have access to fresh neem leaves, make them into a paste and apply directly to your troubled area. Wash the paste off after half an hour. Do this daily.
  • Also, if you have fresh  leaves, make a "tea" by covering the leaves with water and boiling it.  When cool, put this tea in a sprayer and spray the substance on your acne. Do this regularly.
  • If you do not have access to these leaves, there are products you can use. Swallow neem leaf caspsules, extracts or supplements, which you can purchase at health food stores or online.  Take one capsule three times daily for six weeks. You should see results by then.
  • Use neem leaf soaps, which have many of the curative properties of fresh leaves. This makes it a perfect soap for treating acne.  Regularly, make a lather with the soap, apply it to the pimpled area and leave it for a time. Later, wash it off with water.
Products made from neem leaves are an excellent natural acne remedy.

Legal Help for Accutane Victims

Whenever I hear about the Accutane disaster, I become more and more convinced of the merits of using natural acne cures.

According to a PR News release, 13 million persons worldwide were prescribed Accutane for acne.  The drug proved to be defective and dangerous. Some users have experienced severe injuries to the intestines. In some cases, surgery and removal of the colon has been necessary.

Other known side effects include depression, suicidal thoughts and, in the case of pregnant women, birth defects in babies.

How can such a thing happen?

Well, according to the press release:

"Juries are finding that Swiss-based Roche Pharmaceuticals, creator of Accutane, knew that its product was unsafe but kept selling it anyway," said a spokesperson for Accutane-Lawsuit-Lawyer.com. "Roche was making up to $1.2 billion per year in profits from Accutane. For Roche, eventual lawsuits were a trade off, and the human suffering was collateral damage."

Accutane-Lawsuit-Lawyer.com urges all Accutane victims living in the US to contact them to discuss legal assistance.  Various lawsuits  have already gone to court with the courts ruling in favor of the victims. $56 million in jury awards have already been settled.

Spokespersons from Accutane-Lawsuit Lawyer point out that many people experienced symptoms related to the use of Accutane, but until recently, were unaware of the connection. Even though some juries have disregarded the statutes of limitations for this reason, anyone who may have taken Accutane in the past is encouraged to contact the legal advisers. The clock is ticking, as they say.

The Lawfirm has also produced a video,. offering tips for masking acne with makeup.

With so many natural acne cures available, commercial remedies should be the very last approach to undertake.

Turmeric a Good Choice of the Acne Herbs

Anyone interested in acne herbs to treat the unpleasant skin condition known as acne may benefit from checking out the herb turmeric.  Some call it a wonder herb, but that may be a bit too optimistic.

While not a miracle worker, many people have discovered that this well known herb has had a significant affect on their acne blemishes.

Turmeric has antiseptic properties when applied to the skin. When ingested, it boosts the immune system.  When applied as a warm poultice to an injured area, it aids sprains and strains.

To use this acne herb, first mix it with an oil such as coconut oil or sesame oil.  This should give you a paste.  Cover your acne and surrounding skin with this turmeric paste.  Leave it on overnight, but let it dry first or you will end up smearing it all over the pillow and bedding.

By morning, you may be pleasantly surprised to note that the acne has decreased in size. Some say that the acne disappears totally after as little as three days of regular, nightly use.  Even adult acne, related to hormones, has been shown to respond to this approach.

Not only has turmeric been shown to dry out the acne pimples, but it prevents new spots from springing up.  Unlike many commercial products, it does not dry out the skin.  In fact, some people use this herb daily as a facial, leaving it on for ten minutes. They consider it a beauty treatment that contributes to having a great complexion.

Alternatively, you could take Turmeric capsules, which are sold in health food stores.  Turmeric offers additional health benefits when taken internally. Online reports claim that this herb has been found to contribute to mental acuity, improve hearth health, help with cholesterol issues and to have a positive impact on arthritis and type 2 diabetes.

Turmeric is definitely one of the acne herbs to investigate. It's one of the natural acne cures.

Try Echinacea Q as a Homeopathic Acne Remedy

Anyone looking for natural acne cures would do well to explore the acne homeopathic remedies.

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine. It works by treating the whole person rather than just a symptom.  The best and wisest approach to homeopathy is to see a qualified practitioner. You will benefit by their input and supervision of any treatment or remedy you may try.

You will need to provide a full list of symptom and other information.

There is a good chance that your practitioner will suggest that you take Echinacea Q for your acne pimples and blemishes.  A typical dose would be to mix the tincture in five drops of water and swallow this dose three times daily.

According to homeopathy professionals, you should see an improvement by the end of a week.  Most of the acne should have disappeared in a months time.

Said to work 95% of the time, Echinacea Q helps build an immunity towards a number of infections.  No side effects have been recorded.

In addition to Echinacea Q, there are various acne homeopathic remedies that will assist in clearing up the acne scars and other marks on the skin.

Try Cucumbers for Natural Acne Cures

One of the easiest natural acne cures to try is none other than the good old fashioned cucumber. The cuke has been around for ten thousand years and its long been touted as a natural cure for skin conditions.

Ancient societies such as the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used them to heal skin. There is a good reason why they did. Cucumber is good for the skin and it has a cooling effect on the body.  This well known vegetable prevents water retention and is good for swelling and sunburn.

You often see cucumber listed as an ingredient in fancy and expensive skin creams, and it often shows up in luxurious spas.  However, using cucumber this way is likely to be expensive. The low cost way is to buy a cucumber at the supermarket, or grow them in your garden.

Simply cut the cucumber into slices and apply these slices to your skin where the acne pimples are. Leave it on for ten minutes or so and then remove.

It's good for the rest of you too. Do you body a favor and eat the cucumber that you don't put on your acne.

This vegetable is a member of the gourd family. Its relatives include watermelon, zucchini, pumpkin and squash. Cucumbers are low calorie (thirteen calories per cup) and high in nutrition. They contain necessary nutritional ingredients including Vitamin C, Vitamin A (both considered vitamins for acne), as well as potassium, magnesium, folate, dietary fibre and a mineral known as silica.

Natural Acne Remedies May be Best

As most teens can tell you, having acne is no fun. The blemishes are unattractive, embarrassing and sometimes uncomfortable. Commercial acne treatments, such as those products containing benzoyl peroxide, tend to dry the skin and cause other undesirable side effects. Many turn to natural acne treatments as an alternative.

Products such as mint, oatmeal and lemon can help.

To use mint, you will need some fresh mint, which can often be purchased in supermarkets or grown in the garden. You smash the peppermint leaves using a mortar and pestle, then rub gently on the affected area. Remove after ten minutes.  Mint is one of the acne herbs that are found to be helpful.

To use oatmeal, cook a serving of oatmeal and add one quarter cup of honey. Mix well, cool until comfortable and apply to the acne pimples.   Rinse this off after twenty minutes.

To use lemon juice, mix equal amounts of lemon juice and rosewater.  Splash this on your skin and leave it there for ten minutes before you wash it off.  You can buy rosewater in some grocery shops or health food stores, or you can make your own.

To make your own rose water, you will need to dry some rose petals. Wash them well before you dry them, because you want to get rid of any bacteria that could be on the plant.  You will need about a cup of dried rose petals. Cover them with three cups of water that is almost boiling. Cool this until it is at room temperature and pass it through a coffee filter or fine sieve.  Refrigerate until needed.  Throw out any that remains after a month.

Want to see a very funny song about acne?  It's sung by a young guy named Charlie McDonnell.

Good luck with your natural acne cures.

Teen Celebs Receive Big Money to Promote Acne Cures

It is easy to understand why teens and adolescents are turning to commercial remedies for acne, rather than first trying the natural acne cures that may be equally effective – but minus side effects and damage to the budget.

Proactiv, a well known acne treatment has just signed teen star Justin Bieber as a spokesman. Bieber will take home three million dollars in two years, just for telling teens he uses Proactiv on his pimples.

He's not the first high profile youth to bring home the mega-dollars this way.  Other paid spokespeople include Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jessica Simpson, Alicia Keys and Mandy Moore.

According to a VIP from Guthy-Renker, the company that markets Proactiv, they spend between twelve and fifteen million dollars each year on paid endorsements.  They know their market. Teens are more influenced by recording artists than they would be by other types of advertising, including TV commercials.

I hope parents will help their teenagers understand that their musical idols are paid big bucks to offer advice on acne treatments.   I would hope to see youth trying the natural acne cures, including acne herbs, vitamins for acne and other natural acne remedies before rushing out to the pharmacy, credit card in hand.

Acne Medication Leads to Bowel Problems

We have yet one more reason to believe that natural acne cures are the best thing to try first if you have this unpleasant and common skin condition.
A paper published recently in the American Journal of Gastroenterology indicates that isotretinoin (commonly known as Accutane) may in some cases, lead to inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

The research subjects were 94,000 British teens and young adults. It is important to note that the persons who developed inflammatory bowel disease had been taking the medications for a long time -- months and sometimes years  The researchers said that this outcome is relatively rare. Anyone using the drugs should discuss the risks with their physician and make an informed decision as to whether to continue with the medication.
Natural acne cures, acne herbs, homeopathic remedies, etc. could be explored as an alternative
For more information, refer to this article on Reuters: Common Acne Treatments Linked to Bowel Problems.

Diet and Acne: The Jury is Out

As far as I can tell, the jury is out as to whether diet contributes to acne -- either as a cause or as a cure. Do a Google search and you'll find plenty of people maintaining that a healthy diet helps lessen the severity of the outbreaks or helps prevent an acne outbreak from occurring.

On the other hand, we also find information posted on medical web sites saying that diet has no role to play at all, and that medical care and pharmaceutical solutions are recommended.

I believe that anyone with severe acne, especially  cystic acne, should certainly consult with a physician.  Otherwise, and as well as, I believe natural acne cures have a role to play.

For example, there are various studies suggesting that food sensitivities may indeed contribute to acne. In one such study, women consuming large amounts of dairy products were found to have more acne breakouts than women who ingested smaller amounts.  However, the researchers suggest that this could be caused by the high levels of hormones found in fresh dairy products, rather than in the dairy products themselves.

One thing is for sure:  natural acne cures such as a good diet and  vitamins  for acne will certainly not hurt anyone, and there is an excellent chance they can help.

Acne Drug Fights AIDS

Huh?

According to Seer Press News:

"Scientists from John Hopkins have confirmed that Minocycline, an antibiotic primarily used as an acne drug since its discovery in the 1970s can be used to fight HIV-causing virus that eventually cause AIDS."

Anything that helps fight AIDS is a good thing.

But for acne, I think I would prefer to start first with natural remedies like herbs or vitamins for acne

Incidentally, according  to US Vital Statistics, acne affects seventy people out of every one thousand in that country. That makes it the most common skin disorder

Acne and Acne Rosacea: Two Different Things

If you are about to try some natural acne cures, you must first be sure that the condition is acne.   People sometimes confused acne with another condition, erroneously called acne rosacea.

Acne is caused by dead skin, oil and bacteria that plugs the pores.  It is most prevalent among teenagers but can affect adults also.

Acne rosacea is a relatively common skin condition and is most prominent among fair skinned people. Although this condition is not clearly understood, it occurs because the small capillaries near the skin's surface expand, allowing an increase of blood.  The predominant symptom is redness, but this may be accompanied by pimples and blotches.

Diet, exercise and hygiene play a role as well.
